Practical Pushbars
This is actually a pretty strong design if you want a good "yard mule." This is very close to the design used by the CHP on these big cruisers. I've redone this design in aluminum and it weighs only nine pounds! The dimensions are the same except the overhang (from square tubing to the up-rights) is only twelve inches. It looks much better. Shown here is my old '74 Plymouth Fury design. The Dodge Monaco bumper comes to a sharper point, so, the upper mounting brackets will be longer, at about six inches. I've added Teflon skids on the underside to prevent that horrible and embarrassing scraping sound that comes from hitting a steep driveway approach. It's all been powdercoated and then sprayed with flexible bumper black for lower gloss. That's foam pipe insulation on the uprights to round out the effect and provide some protection. This design requires you to drill only two holes which go through both the outer and inner bumper. Not visible is the 1/4 inch closed-cell, black foam gasket between upper mount and chrome bumper face to retard rust. The movie Monaco pushbars are two inches wide, 21 inches tall, and spaced exactly 27 inches, center-to-center.
